Six Entirely Selfish & Completely Valid Reasons You Should Come to Wing Women Weekend

Q

Wing Women Weekend happens on Oct 16-20th in Provincetown, MA, during that community’s annual Women’s Week. For those who aren’t in the know yet, Provincetown is, like, probably the gayest small town in America, and Women’s Week is basically lesbian Mecca. Every year in October, queer women and non-binary folks descend on this little Cape Cod town to play, party, and partake in a multitude of activities exclusively for our community.

The Women’s Week lore is legendary. A quick Google search reveals tons of personal Women’s Week anecdotes. Based on the reviews, women who attend fall in love with P-town, make a boatload of new friends and participate in a ton of fun stuff. Tea dances? Terrific! Comedy shows? Come on! Whale watching? Why not? Literally, it seems like there’s something for everyone.

If that isn’t convincing enough, I’m going to lay six compelling reasons why you should join us in October:

1. There is nothing quite like meeting your online community IRL.

I remember when we assembled some of our Lotus Group Coaching members in Nashville last December. Women who have supported each other in online spaces for months finally got to meet in person and hug. And talk. And LAUGH! Oh my god, there was so much laughter! Sure, we did workshop stuff for growth and healing, which was awesome, but honestly, the most amazing thing was to see these women come home to each other. It was like a family reunion of long-lost cousins finally getting together. Those friendships jelled in person in a big way, and those women still, months later, hold a special place for each other today. That is pretty damn cool.

2. Going to LGBTQ+ spaces as a team eases social anxiety.

Look, I know some of you are extroverts who need little help in social spaces. But it can be tough for anyone, even extroverts, to attend epic queer events solo. It makes a huge difference to know you’ve got a wing woman who will check in with you and help you navigate big social events. Even if it’s just having someone who will save you a seat while you go to the bathroom, hold your bag while you pay for a ticket, or help navigate your way to a party, it’s incredibly handy to have others there for support.

3. Welcome to Inspiration Station!

Wing Women Weekend is an extension of our work at Lotus Group Coaching, but pumped up with some pretty incredible guest speakers and facilitators. We’ve got psychologists, therapists/researchers, authors, creatives, adventurers, entrepreneurs, activists, and healers on board to lead sessions to help you become inspired and to grow. You know, coming out later in life often precipitates other big life changes. We see it in our group participants all of the time! After coming out, they do other big things like move across the country, change careers, and take up new social causes; coming out itself is a catalyst for other significant life changes. Our guest speakers and facilitators will be there to share their experiences, guide you, and answer your questions so you can start thinking about other big things you want to change in your life.

4. Women’s Week attracts a diverse LGBTQIA+ crowd of women, and that includes age.

There are some lesbian/woman-centric events out there that look hella fun, but largely attract a younger demographic. Not so for Women’s Week. Plenty of mature women come to Women’s Week, so you won’t feel like the mom or grandma in the room. Or if you do, at least you’ll be surrounded by plenty of other moms and grandmas, so you’ll be in good company! Skip the nightclubbing and go to a Tea Dance instead. Tea dances start and end early, so you can party hardy and still be in bed at a decent hour (and no one is judging you for heading to bed early because we’re all doing the same thing!).

5. Practice your flirting skills.

Come on, ladies. We know there are plenty of you who are still new to dating in the lesbian world. Don’t be shy. P-town will be full of other queer women, and the atmosphere is fun. This is the perfect time for you to let your hair down a little and practice your flirting game. And remember, your Wing Women will be there to persuade you and pump you up to go talk to that cutie across the room who keeps making eye contact.

6. Um, excuse me, where’s my hug?

Hey, group coaches need love too! Seriously, I get to work and interact with so many of you on a regular basis; I would love to meet you for real and give you a big squish. Here’s a little secret – I’m hella invested in all of you, your stories, your progress, and your growth. I very selfishly would absolutely love to connect with each and every one of you in person because you’re important to me!

Did I convince you? Good! Get there to the Wing Women Weekend registration page at www.wingwomenweekend.com/ and sign up!
